Swich is a personalized online cooking school that helps people develop the underlying cooking skills needed to successfully make the long-term change to more health-supportive eating.
Swich is a one size fits one approach that recognizes that everyone is unique and that diet plans, while they work for some, cannot work for all. Swich recommends personalized learning and cooking content for each person based on their current health motivation (e.g. healthcare, wellness, betterment), current skill level, cooking preferences, and favorite food and flavor profiles. Coming soon, recommendations will also take into consideration current health conditions (e.g. diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, etc.), and eventually a person’s molecular and genetic make-up.
Healthcare professionals can provide dietary and nutritional advice to their patients or clients, but if they don’t know how to cook, change will not likely occur. When people are faced with the challenge of changing their diet, they lack the underlying skills, knowledge, and very basic instincts needed to make the change—particularly those first few steps down a healthier path. Swich hand holds at-home cooks through this period of transition and provides the cooking education needed to make the change easier, more fun, and delicious.
  • Users answer a few onboarding questions to help Swich assess their current cooking skill level, their current level of confidence in the kitchen, their current food and dietary preferences (e.g. SAD, plant-based, flexitarian, pescatarian, etc.), and favorite flavor profiles (Thai, Italian, Mexican, Indian, etc.).
  • Swich then makes personalized recommendations for each user suggesting instructional content and recipes that will help them begin their learning journey, and help them be more successful with recipes.
  • Users interact with the recommendations by either adding suggested learning content to their learning path (their option), or dismissing the recommendations, indicating that they are not interested. Swich uses this information to learn more about each user, their preferences and their unique challenges so personalization gets even more relevant over time.
  • Users then begin their learning journey and gradually develop the needed cooking skills by first watching short instructional technique videos (if they want to), then practicing with suggested recipes that are specifically designed to help users develop competency with a particular skill that they are trying to develop (e.g. stir-frying, steaming, roasting vegetables, cooking rice, etc.).
  • To inspire the world to make good decisions (aka stop killing themselves).
  • To inspire the world to take care of themselves (through food).
  • To teach the world to cook well and gain ‘food smarts.’
  • To make ‘health’ available to all.
  • To make cooking fun and delicious (so people live long, rich lives).
Swich was built by the Rouxbe Cooking School (founded in 2005)—the world’s leading online cooking school. Rouxbe has taught over 580,000+ home and professional cooks in over 180 countries, and five languages. Rouxbe is also the trusted cook training application for over 2,300 premium hotel and food service organizations around the world.

Swich is 100% plant-based. We don’t subscribe to any diet because we don’t believe in them. We believe in cooking whole foods, mostly plant-based, utilizing proper cooking techniques and preparation methods. We meet people where they are at who are open and motivated to increasing the amount of plant-based foods in their diet (for some that might mean 100%, for others it might be 1 day a week or even one new plant-based side a week). We don’t, however, use any non-plant-based ingredients in any of our recipes or instructional materials.

Our focus with Swich is teaching people basic cooking methods and techniques behind successful cooking which are applicable to any diet, such as how to cut properly, use a pot and pan, apply heat, develop flavor, and use basic cooking techniques like sautéing, steaming, roasting, stir-frying, sweating, etc. We use vegetables to teach these things, making it accessible to any preferred diet and/or eating preferences.

No. While Swich teaches cooking techniques and methods using only plant-based ingredients, we teach the cooking techniques behind almost any kind of diet.
Basic cooking education with Swich is free for all users. We may have premium tiers in the future but this will be completely opt-in. Swich aims to bring cooking education to everyone on the planet—it’s our obsession. Why? Because we believe that life is better when people know how to cook. We believe that when these educational ingredients are set free to the world, and empowered by you, that we might just experience a global health improvement revolution that transforms the health and well-being of tens of millions of people. That’s the plan anyway. Better jump in!
Swich is not a website with a collection of thousands of recipes. Swich is a site where at-home cooks will find their way to millions of different recipes (many that they will learn to create from their newly developed skills and improved cooking knowledge). As cooks develop a new cooking mindset and start seeing the world of food the way a chef sees it, their dependency on recipes should dissipate over time as they get deeper into their Swich journey.

Because it’s the wrong way to learn. Recipes are great, but even if it’s the best recipe in the world, by the very best chef in the galaxy, if you don’t know how to execute it, success will always be hit and miss.

At Swich, you will begin a new cooking journey—one which begins with you learning a few things that will help you gain a little confidence in the kitchen. We want cooking to be fun, not a chore. And in order to achieve that blissful state, we feel most people around the world need a little ‘up-skilling’. We also feel that people need to reframe the way they think about food. They need to stop listening to bad dietary advice, wake up their cooking brains, and start cooking whole foods again, with an emphasis on more plant-based foods. Chefs do not think like most home cooks. They can view an ingredient with a different lens, figure out the most appropriate cooking technique, apply some skillful flavor development techniques, and create on the fly. As you advance through your Swich experience, this is our goal. And we promise, while it will take some dedication and some of your time, we are committed to helping you become the cook you want to be.

Consider Swich your cooking concierge. We will figure out what you need to learn to achieve your goals, and then we’ll help you get there.

No. That is the job of your healthcare professionals. Swich is here to provide a resource or tool for users to implement the recommendations of their healthcare professionals (food and dietary change). We support this by provided needed cooking education that will drive cooking success for the long-term.

To be clear, we do not provide educational services regarding any form of nutritional, medical or dietary guidance, or make any formal nutritional recommendations. We may in the future facilitate community- and/or partner-driven information sharing through user-generated forums (e.g. a diabetes group of users that communicate amongst themselves sharing useful information, links, etc. [people helping people]). We will, however, not author or endorse any such information or advice as we are not qualified in this manner.

It is the best site I have seen for clear, concise cooking video demos.
